Baba Ram Singh ji was one of the most trusted associates of Baba Maharaj Singh ji. During the struggle with the British Government, Baba Maharaj Singh ji used to visit his Dera (place) quite often in routine.

Baba Ram Singh ji kept inspiring his close ones and disciples to cooperate with Baba Maharaj Singh ji. Baba Maharaj Singh ji had entrusted him the task of freeing Maharaja Daleep Singh from the clutches of the British, though unfortunately that task could not be accomplished.

With the arrest and martyrdom of Baba Maharaj Singh Ji, the efforts to keep the candle (issue) of Khalsa State burning came almost to an end.

Some of the Sikh chiefs came under the spell of British, few accepted jagir (estate and other benefits) while others got ready to serve them. Fighters like Baba Bikram Singh ji Bedi, moth to a flame, remained locked in the jail cell.

Rani Jind Kaur, beloved of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, a victim of unbearable and indescribable humiliation was exiled. The heir to the throne of Lahore, her son Daleep Singh, was snatched from her and left at the mercy of British babysitters and caretakers.

It was a great tragedy for the entire Sikh community to have the Kingdom of thousands of miles including the Kohinoor diamond and the entire wealth of treasury of Lahore got gifted in the name of Queen Victoria, from the innocent and minor Daleep Singh.

For Maharaja Daleep Singh, it was gross injustice and brutal deception by the British – who always boasted of justice.

It was a daylight robbery on the rights of minor Maharaja, which time will never forgive.

Although he (Baba Ram Singh ji) remained active during the struggle under the patronage of Baba Maharaj Singh ji but after his martyrdom, he constrained his activities.

Because his arrest warrant had been issued by the British Government, he did not keep a permanent location. He used to visit Zahura and Naurangabad Dera from time to time, which is why ‘Naurangabad’ remained associated with his name in spite of his living in a dispassionate style.

Even in those circumstances, he like other saints of this Spiritual Lineage, continued the service of doing Amrit Sanchar.

ਬਾਬਾ ਰਾਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਬਾਬਾ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਭਰੋਸੇਯੋਗ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਸਨ।ਅੰਗ੍ਰੇਜ਼ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਸਮੇਂ ਬਾਬਾ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਆਪ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਹੂਰੇ ਸਥਿਤ ਡੇਰੇ ਆਮ ਹੀ ਆਉਣ ਜਾਣ ਸੀ।

ਬਾਬਾ ਰਾਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਜ਼ਦੀਕੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਬਾ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ। ਅੰਗ੍ਰੇਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੁੰਗਲ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਦਲੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਕਰਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿੰਮਾ ਵੀ ਬਾਬਾ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸੌਂਪਿਆ ਸੀ ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ ਬਦਕਿਸਮਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਕਾਰਜ ਨੇਪਰੇ ਨਾ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਸਕਿਆ।

ਓਧਰ ਬਾਬਾ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਰਾਜ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਮ੍ਹਾ ਬਲਦੀ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਅੰਤ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਸਿੱਖ ਸਰਦਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਅੰਗ੍ਰੇਜ਼ ਦੀ ਈਨ ਮੰਨ ਲਈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਜਾਗੀਰ ਲੈ ਲਈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਕਰ ਲਈ। ਬਾਬਾ ਬਿਕ੍ਰਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਬੇਦੀ ਵਰਗੇ ਸ਼ਮ੍ਹਾ ਦੇ ਪਰਵਾਨੇ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਦੀ ਕਾਲ ਕੋਠੜੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੱਕੇ ਰਹੇ।

ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਰਣਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਬੂਬਾ ਰਾਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਕੌਰ ਨੂੰ ਅਸਹਿ ਅਤੇ ਅਕਹਿ ਜ਼ਲੀਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਜਲਾਵਤਨ ਹੋਣਾ ਪਿਆ। ਲਾਹੌਰ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਦੇ ਵਾਰਸ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਦਲੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਖੋਹ ਕੇ ਅੰਗ੍ਰੇਜ਼ ਦਾਈਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਨੌਕਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਮ ਤੇ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ।

ਮਾਸੂਮ ਅਤੇ ਅਣਭੋਲ ਦਲੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਤੋਂ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਮੁਰੱਬਾ ਮੀਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ, ਕੋਹੇਨੂਰ ਹੀਰੇ ਸਮੇਤ ਲਾਹੌਰ ਤੋਸ਼ੇਖਾਨੇ ਦੀ ਸਮੁੱਚੀ ਸੰਪਤੀ ਮਹਾਰਾਣੀ ਵਿਕਟੋਰੀਆ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ ਲਿਖਾ ਲੈਣੀ ਸਮੁਚੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡੀ ਤ੍ਰਾਸਦੀ ਸੀ। ਨਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਦੁਹਾਈ ਪਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਅੰਗ੍ਰੇਜ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਦਲੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਘੋਰ ਅਨਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਰਿੰਦਗੀ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਫਰੇਬ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਨਾਬਾਲਗ ਮਹਾਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਹੱਕ ਉੱਤੇ ਦਿਨ-ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਡਾਕਾ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰੀਖ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਮੁਆਫ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰੇਗੀ।

ਭਾਵੇਂ ਬਾਬਾ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸਰਪ੍ਰਸਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੇ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਤਾਂ ਆਪ ਸਰਗਰਮ ਰਹੇ ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਆਪ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਸੰਕੋਚ ਲਈਆਂ।

ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਆਪ ਦੀ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਗ੍ਰੇਜ਼ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਵਲੋਂ ਵਾਰੰਟ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਆਪ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੋਈ ਪੱਕਾ ਠਿਕਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਿਆ। ਆਪ ਗਾਹੇ-ਬਗਾਹੇ ਜ਼ਹੂਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਨੌਰੰਗਾਬਾਦ ਡੇਰੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਵਿਰੱਕਤੀ ਠਾਠ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਵੀ ਆਪ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਨੌਰੰਗਾਬਾਦ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ।

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਹਾਲਾਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਆਪ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਸੰਪ੍ਰਦਾਇ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਮਹਾਂਪੁਰਖਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਚਰ ਕੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਿਰੰਤਰ ਜਾਰੀ ਰੱਖੀ।
